A Boost of Therapy - Student Volunteer
Program A Boost of Therapy is a home based
program that matches physical, occupational and speech therapy students
with individuals recovering from stroke and brain injury who require
outpatient therapy and need help with their home exercises.
When recovering from a stroke or brain injury, it is often necessary to
participate in an outpatient therapy program, whether physical,
occupational, speech or a combination of these disciplines. Therapists
usually instruct their clients to practice certain exercises at home which
are considered a crucial step in achieving maximum progress. In reality,
however, it is very difficult to follow the recommended home program
independently or even with a family member.
A Boost of Therapy sends student volunteers to assist with home exercises
as a supplement to the regular therapy program. The program has indeed
proven to be a genuine boost to our clients, who have seen real and
meaningful progress with their therapy.
