Recent Community Event: Stroke & Brain Injury EXPO
Brooklyn, NY - April 29, 2013
"Coping with Crisis"
David Pelcovitz, PhD
Straus Professor of Psychology & Education, Azrieli Graduate School, Yeshiva University
An overflow crowd took part in an educational Stroke and Brain Injury Expo, the first of its kind in Brooklyn, on Monday evening, April 29th at Menorah Hall in Boro Park. Sponsored by BINA Stroke & Brain Injury Assistance, the informative event was an invaluable opportunity for both brain injury survivors and caregivers to learn about a wide range of services and rehabilitation options.
Exhibits included vendors from across the rehabilitation spectrum including both acute and sub-acute facilities with first-class stroke and brain injury units, prestigious lawyers with a unique understanding of brain injury, specialists in Medicaid enrollment, top home care agencies, a cutting-edge home accessibility company, an outstanding pediatric rehab facility, and expert physical, occupational and speech therapists.
As audience members streamed into the hall and moved from exhibit to exhibit, they had the opportunity to gather an abundance of useful information for both children and adults, and to network with top professionals in the field. Participants were especially interested in meeting the instructor from an adaptive driving school for the disabled whose modified car was parked right outside the hall, as well as the representatives of a premier company for wheelchair accessible vehicles who also had a van on display out front.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation by distinguished psychologist Dr. David Pelcovitz on the topic, “Coping with Crisis.” Dr. Pelcovitz shared inspiring and down-to-earth tips for individuals and families dealing with crisis that will allow them to emerge emotionally strong and intact.
